Book Synopsis

Two decades have passed since Callie Kingman begrudgingly followed her husband, Thomas, across the country in pursuit of his career at the expense of her own. Now an empty nester in Sacramento, Callie faces a unraveling life: no job prospects, a declining mother, and a husband who announces he’s leaving her—with the parting words, “It’s not me, it’s you.”

Taking to bed, Callie leans on food delivery, her neighbor for booze, and her college best friend for comfort. When an overdue annual exam leads to a health scare, she is forced to confront the fractured life she’s been living and to reconnect with the vibrant, indomitable woman she once was.

From her formative years at Princeton and an unforgettable first love to the pressures women face to strive, serve, and hold it all together, Callie finds herself face-to-face with every choice she’s made. Run For Your Life, Callie Kingman is a sharp, funny, and deeply resonant novel about reinvention, resilience, and forging a better path forward.
