Adult Ed on Yom Hashoah

Monday, April 13, 2026 26 Nisan 5786

5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Join us for a special Yom HaShoah commemoration as we watch powerful clips from “Yearning to Breathe Free” (1938-1942),  the second of three episodes of The U.S. and the Holocaust, the acclaimed documentary series by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein. Viewing the episodes is recommended but optional -- all are welcome to join us.

As World War II begins, Americans are united in their disapproval of Nazi brutality but divided on whether to act. Some individuals and organizations work tirelessly to help refugees escape. Meanwhile, Charles Lindbergh and isolationists battle with Roosevelt to try to keep America out of the war. Germany invades the Soviet Union and secretly begins the mass murder of European Jews.

Following the clips, Rabbi Sam Klein will lead a thoughtful discussion as we reflect on history, memory, and moral responsibility.

We will conclude with memorial prayers.

To watch the entire documentary in advance please visit the PBS website. A "passport" membership is required for $5/ month.
