Join us for a meaningful evening of giving and celebration!
Support the Jewish community affected by the LA fires by donating Judaica before services or making a monetary contribution to help them rebuild.
Then, celebrate Tu B’Shvat, the New Year of Trees, with a special Shabbat service, a joyful oneg, and a festive seder filled with fruits, wine, and reflections on our connection to nature.
Here’s how you can help:
Please join the Tikkun Olam Committee in helping our Jewish friends in Southern California who have been affected by these devastating fires. Join us for Shabbat Services on Friday, February 14th, when we will launch the Fire Outreach Fundraising Drive. The fundraising drive will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by a 6:00 pm special Shabbat Service dedicated to this effort. We will continue to collect Judaica and donations at Shabbat services through the end of February, so please be sure to help in the following ways:
1. Donate Judicia items which will be ship to Jewish families who have lost their homes. Items must be in nice, like new condition, free of wax, etc.
- Shabbat Candle Holders
- Kiddish Cups
- Challah Covers
- Seder Plates
2. And/or donate money to support those affected by the fires. Donations can be specified to help rebuild the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center or to purchase new Judaica for the affected families. Please make checks payable to the Wood River Jewish Community and make a note in the memo "Emergency Tzedakah Fund" or click here to donate online and be sure to select in the drop-down menu "Emergency Tzedakah Fund".
A Message from WRJC Member Enid Rawlings
I grew up in the foothills of Altadena, California, just blocks away from Eaton Canyon and less than a mile away from the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center. The PJTC is a conservative congregation that was established just over a century ago. I went to preschool, Sunday school, Hebrew school, and was Bat Mitzvah’d there. I would say that for most of my youth, I went to the PJTC at least once or twice a week. It was a pivotal part of my Jewish upbringing and a pivotal part of my adolescence—I even had my first kiss there. Sadly, on the night of January 7th I was devastated to learn that the entire synagogue was burned to ashes in just a few hours by the Eaton fire. Fortunately, congregants were able to save all 13 Torahs, but little else survived.

Additionally, many, many Jewish families in the Altadena/Pasadena and Pacific Palisades areas lost their homes in the fire, including WRJC members and their families.
Together, we can make a difference!
Thank you,
Enid Rawlings and the rest of the Tikkun Olam Committee, Laurie Garber, Noa Ries, Juli Roos, and Candice Star
